What Is the Big Wave Alliance?

The Big Wave Alliance is an athlete-driven organisation founded to create a fairer, more inclusive and more exciting structure for professional big wave surfing competition. The concept centres on six events per season, a new seeding system that gives underrepresented athletes a path to compete at the highest level, and prize money that reflects the genuine risk and commitment required to surf the world’s biggest waves.

Gary Linden is one of the founding fathers of big wave surfing. His involvement brings decades of institutional knowledge, credibility and a network that spans the entire global big wave community. Together with Freddy Olander, the alliance represents both the legacy and the future of the sport.
